Rochfords International Rose Trials – Trial 5 Results
On September 9th, we enjoyed a glorious day of sunshine, colour, and camaraderie at the RIRT Trial 5 results day. It was inspiring to see so many colleagues, breeders, and friends from across the rose world gathered to celebrate the results of many years of effort in rose breeding.
This year’s trials have been shaped by an extraordinary sequence of seasons: one of the wettest years on record in 2024, followed by the cool frosty morning of spring 2025, and culminating in one of the sunniest summers in memory. Thanks to the irrigation in the trials field, the roses thrived with reduced blackspot, though the heat brought rust earlier than expected – a trend noted by the breeders on their grounds as well. Despite these challenges, the beds were still bursting with buds and blooms – a living testament to the new bread resilience, health, and beauty of the roses being trialled.
